Our Origins
Rooted in Ecuador.
Built around producers.
After spending time connecting with producers across Ecuador, we started to see first-hand the quality and diversity of the coffees they were producing. We found unique varieties, processes and flavors that we felt deserved to be experienced beyond Ecuador.
That is when UYANA started to take shape: as a way to bring these coffees to the world while keeping the producers, their work and their origin at the center of the story.
What guides us
Origin
We want to give visibility to the producers and to the life experiences behind every coffee. Everything we build starts with them, and with bringing their stories closer to the people who drink their coffee. By doing this, we hope to create more awareness of the challenges, risks and realities producers face.
Unique Quality
Every lot is different and can never be fully replicated. Climate, temperature, the age of the plantation and many other conditions in the field are constantly changing. We want to respect that uniqueness and treat every lot according to its own character, so the customer can also experience each coffee as something unique in their daily ritual.
Connection
We want to build strong and lasting connections with both producers and customers. For us, coffee has always been something that brings people together. We want to create a community around it where producers, customers and everyone in between can feel more connected to each other and to where the coffee comes from.
Responsibility
We work in a way that respects producers and the labor behind every harvest. We also choose to work with producers who care about nature, their communities and the people who work with them. Whenever possible, we want to support those who go a step further and use coffee as a way to create a positive impact around them.
Who is behind UYANA?
Andres Chuga
Co-FounderHow do you know you are not in a dream? Born in Ibarra, Ecuador, and now living in Utrecht, Andres loves coffee, sharing with others, and finding presence and spontaneity in everyday moments.
Miguel Andrade
Co-FounderBorn and raised in Ibarra, Miguel is one of the people bringing UYANA to life. His passion for coffee and for the communities behind it is present in everything he does. He now calls Amsterdam home.
